Stainless steel is an alloy based on iron and chromium which has the particularity of not rusting. It is greatly appreciated because it is durable, affordable and hypoallergenic . It gives a robust character and composes a lot of men's jewelry.
Some jewelers use recycled gold that they recycle without refining. The resulting product is cheaper, of lower quality and more fragile. The conscientious jewelers do not use this method.
To understand what the quality of a diamond means, you must be know that it is determined by four criteria. Two diamonds of the same size are not necessarily identical and do not always have the same value.
The diamond must be cut to an ideal ratio so that the propagation of light is maximized. Most diamonds are cut with 58 facets. Diamonds might have a brilliant, marquise, pear, heart, oval, emerald, cushion and princess cut.
The weight of a stone is measured in carats. One carat equals 100 points. A 25-point diamond will weigh one quarter of a carat. Two diamonds of the same weight often have very different values, depending on their quality.
The degree of purity of a diamond varies depending on the number, size, nature and position of inclusions in the stone. The analysis is performed by experienced gemologists using a Digiscope and a magnifying lens. These inclusions represent the fingerprint of the diamond.
The colour of the diamonds varies from colourless to a slightly yellow tint. There are also diamonds of all colours, rarity and very valuable.
A certificate of authentication should always be given to you when you buy a diamond jewel. A diamond certificate, also known as a diamond file or a diamond quality report, is a report that identifies its weight, clarity, cut, and colour. When buying a diamond, you should get this certificate, which guarantees you the details of your stone as well as its value.
Our precious and semi-precious real stones are chosen individually and conscientiously by our team and are purchased from recognized GGA gemmologists and know their provenance. We have a very large selection of gems in store and can order other gems at your request. Our team is also experienced in cutting unusual stones.
The different kinds of pearls
- The fine pearl, also called natural pearl, is produced without human intervention;
- The cultured pearl is different because the pearl oyster receives a core of “mother-of-pearl” or, occasionally, glass. The pearl layers are superimposed on the nucleus introduced by the man;
- The traditional cultured pearl is grown in salt water and usually takes three years to take shape. The main producing country is Japan;
- The freshwater pearl is also a pearl of culture, but in fresh water;
- Natural pearls of Tahiti take different shapes and colours;
- The core is never round, these pearls are irregular shape called Baroque. They have different colours, such as white, pink, orange-yellow and even golden.
Special attention and basic care preserve the beauty of your pearls in the long run. Keep them away from chemicals, such as hairspray, makeup and perfume, which can after a while dim their luster and cause stains and discoloration. Avoid storing them with your other jewelry.
